What is a Futurity?

It is an event for which the contestants are selected long beforehand. It all begins long before your foal is even a twinkle in your favorite stallion's eye. In a limited futurity like the MRCHBA, only offspring of the nominated stallions are eligible to compete. It is as easy as 1-2-3.

How do I participate?

STEP ONE - Breeding to a Nominated MRCHBA Stallion

The stallions are nominated by their owner to the futurity by donating a breeding to our Stallion Auction. Stallion Owners may prebuy their stud fee before it goes on the auction board at the futurity.

STEP TWO - Entering the resulting foal in the Futurity Show

By purchasing a stallion breeding through the Stallion Auction, the mare owner can breed to the stallion of their choice and receive the benefits allowed them in accordance with the guidelines set out in the Stallion Auction rules. When the foal is born, the mare owner can now decide to enter the foal in the appropriate futurity weanling class for half price. This resulting foal is eligible to be shown for four years in the futurity. The MRCHBA Select Classes Entries are $100.00 (Weanling Voucher Classes are $50.00)

Weanling classes are all ages. A list of the Eligible Offspring is available.

How much are the entry fees?

Entry fees are $100.00 per class. Vouchers are issues to stallion owners that allow them to enter one futurity class for half price. Vouchers are also issued to mare owners who purchase a stallion breeding fee through the stallion auction to enter the resulting weanling in its appropriate weanling class for half price.

What is the Payment Schedule?

All Stallion payments are due prior to June 1, 2008.

All Futurity payments are due upon entry at show.

What is the Payout? And what does 'Money Added' mean?

Remember the entry fees mentioned above? Those fees, less the office charges go into a purse which is paid out according to placement in the class you entered.

Our futurity has what they call 'added' money. This money included is in the purse, in addition to monies paid by the entry fee, is generated by income raised by selling the Stallion Breeding fees through the Stallion Auction.

Entries in Class Purse Distribution
1 Entry 100 %
2 Entries 60-40%
3 Entries 50-30-20%
4-14 Entries 40-30-20-10%
15 & More Entries 30-24-18-12-9-7%

For example, if there were 10 entries in the Early Weanling Filly class with $500 added, the payout, less office fees, would be divided between the top 4 places. See above purse distributions.
